Andrew Bianchi

Andrew hails from Glasgow, where even the notoriously wet weather cannot fail to dampen his love of literature. When not studying for his postgraduate qualification in publishing or jumping in puddles, his interests include photography, writing and reading as much as possible. His favourite writers are Ian McEwan, Arthur Golden, Philip Pullman, Terry Pratchett, Michelle Moran, Neil Gaiman, Armistead Maupin, Charles Dickens and Charlotte Bronte.

Athena

Athena runs her own business as a Copywriter and Marketing Strategist based in Edinburgh. In her spare time she loves reading and and reviewing books -her favourite genre is magic realism ;-). Things that she likes includes: hiking, cycling, elderflower cider, reiki, dancing, a lifetime of learning, friends, her boyfriend and canoeing along the Union Canal. At the moment, she is interested in meeting people through business networking and finding freelance work in Scotland.

Charlotte works as a project manager in a busy office in London. She holds a degree in English Language and Culture and loves London life, long distance walking and her allotment. Her favourite authors are Jonathan Safran Foer, Dave Eggers and secretly also Joanne Harris.

Claire

Claire is employed in the homeless sector and provides advice and guidance to 16-25 year olds. She's currently studying for an MA in Novel Writing at Manchester Metropolitan University, and before that studied Creative Writing at the University of Glamorgan. Her favourite contemporary novels are Room by Emma Donoghue, M.J. Hyland's Carry Me Down, and The Fifth Child by Doris Lessing. Claire's poetry, fiction and reviews have previously been published in university anthologies, Sentinel Literary Quarterly, Buzz Magazine Cardiff, as well as local newspapers. She will be Resident Writer in new experimental website, www.somethingeveryday.co.uk, during September of this year.

Darren Richard Carlaw

Darren is a British writer, editor and researcher. He studied and taught at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne, where he completed a PhD thesis examining the New York literary flâneur. His work has been published in the Times Literary Supplement, The Journal of American Studies, The New York Journal of Books, Conserveries mémorielles, Spilling Ink Review and Fractured West. He is the founder of StepAway Magazine, an online literary magazine which publishes urban flash fiction and poetry with an emphasis on the walking narrative. (www.stepawaymagazine.com) Dr. Carlaw is currently writing a monograph about walking in New York City.

Ieva

Ieva is a 25-year-old aspiring writer from Lithuania. She has a background in Political Science and Cultural Studies, and had worked for a Lithuanian news website. Her experience of serving wine and food in various posh events, or coffee at the airport only strengthened her main passion for being an observer of the daily lives of ordinary people. She loves avocados, and her favourite drink is a lattee (no sugar). She enjoys reading about feminism, queer/gender studies and virtual identities.

Isbel James

Isbel writes and reads poetry and other formations of words. She was born in Ottawa and has been growing up ever since. Some of her schooling took place in Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Malaysia and Britain. She lives in Edinburgh.

Isla

Isla currently works for a publishing company just outside Edinburgh, following several years spent in exile as a journalist in London, the Middle East, and, randomly, the Outer Hebrides. Her favourite pastimes include learning languages, travel, photography, indoor gardening, exploring Edinburgh on foot, and dabbling in a spot of creative writing. Literary heroes/heroines include Charlotte Brontë, Patricia Highsmith, Harper Lee, Gabriel García Márquez, Philip K. Dick and Stephen King (the early years). Isla reads the Lord of the Rings trilogy once a year.

J K Fox splits her time between South East Scotland and the Pacific Northwest in the USA. She loves the literature and the landscape of both areas. Trained in photojournalism, she also writes for press and her short fiction has been featured by Stand Magazine and Notes from The Underground.

Keridwen Bronsema

Keridwen is currently studying for an MSc in Publishing at Edinburgh Napier University, before that she studied English Language Studies at Swansea University. She's a self-confessed gamer geek and loves the way games suck you into their storyline in much the same way books do. She can usually be found in the sci-fi and fantasy section of her local bookshop or enjoying a delicious coffee at her favourite coffee shop. Her favourite authors include: Ann Rice, J. R. Ward, Brian Jacques and Isaac Asimov.

Ruth de la Haye

Ruth lives in the middle of nowhere in the Scottish Borders. She enjoys cycling and walking around the countryside, and has loved the ‘Three R’s’ - Reading, wRiting and Relaxing - as long as she can remember. Her favourite authors of the moment include Jasper Fforde and Elizabeth Peters (although this is always open to change), and if she had to become a book like in Fahrenheit 451 she would choose to be The Hobbit.

Sarah was a child once. She read and wrote a lot. When she was a bit
older she went to the University of Cambridge, where she read and wrote a
lot. Sarah now also watches (particularly bonus features) and listens
(particularly to interviews). She supports the postal system. She is
looking for a reasonably priced digital voice recorder. She reads and
writes a lot.

Shanaya Gandhi

Shanaya was born, educated and employed in Mumbai and never thought she
could love another city as much. In the early weeks of 2011, she moved to
Durham and its old-world charm is slowly winning her over. She has a Masters
in English Literature, a diploma in Fashion Technology and has written for
many lifestyle magazines and newspapers. She loves long walks and can be
found trotting around North-Eastern countryside or manoeuvring through
Durham's narrow streets. Either way, she rarely leaves home without a book.

Simon

Simon lives in the grand county that is the West Riding of Yorkshire and is a big fan of Historical novels both fiction and non-fiction, with a growing interest in Classical novels and a keen interest in novels written by local authors like Gervase Phinn. There’s nothing better than finding a new novel in the Macro and Cato series by Simon Scarrow, the next Sharpe novel from Bernard Cornwell or finding a new series of the Greek Heroes and Villains by Glynn Iliffe. Settling down with a good book and a cup of tea is one of lifes little luxuries!
